A ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia was put in place on Saturday. While a midnight deadline has come, the status of the latest cease-fire deal is uncertain. Just hours before the deadline, heavy fighting intensified in eastern Ukraine, as separatist rebels tried to seize more territory.
Kiev said the government-held town of Debaltseve was under heavy attack. Renewed fighting was also reported near the southern city of Mariupol. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that Ukraine pledges to respect the agreement made in Minsk.

CCTV America interviewed Steven Fish for a deeper look  into the Ukraine-Russia ceasefire. Fish is a professor of political science at the University of California, Berkeley. He specializes in democracy and regime change in developing and post-communist countries.
