China will hold a military parade at Tiananmen Square in Beijing on September 3 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory over Japan in WWII, the State Council Information Office said.

China will hold a series of events to commemorate the victory, including a military parade on September the 3rd . Earlier this morning, the State Council Information Office held a press conference on the arrangements for the commemoration.

The parade will invite foreign troops and exhibit advanced PLA military equipment for the first time, a high-ranking military official said in a news conference on Tuesday.

“We hope through this year’s military parade, history and the future can be connected, China and the world can be connected and a message of peace and development can be sent,” said Qu Rui, deputy director of the office in charge of organizing the parade.

Troops from the PLA’s Second Artillery Corps, the navy, air force and armed police will march on Tiananmen Square.

President Xi Jinping will address the commemoration and award medals to veterans and family members of the deceased.

Beijing says the parade aims to show its commitment to peace.

“The theme of the event is to remember history, to commemorate the martyrs, to cherish the peace, and to embark on a brighter future,” said Wang Shiming, Vice Minister of the CPC Central Committee’s publicity department.

Events marking the 70th anniversary of WWII will be held across the country.
