Leaders point to successful climate agreements

The seventh Strategic and Economic Dialogue is underway in Washington, D.C. China and the U.S. are hailing their cooperation on climate change as a model for the rest of the world and are urging countries to see the green economy as an opportunity not a cost.

Highlights:

  • The 2014 agreement states that by 2030 China’s carbon emissions will peak. And by 2025 the U.S. will have cut its carbon emissions by 26% or more from 2005 levels.
  • Both countries say it’s remarkable cooperation since the two were on opposite sides of the debate for over a decade. Now, the two biggest emitters, developed and developing economies will jointly push for a global climate agreement.
  • Another six EcoPartnerships announced, pairing U.S. and Chinese companies together to meet environmental initiatives.


Jennifer Turner on US and China’s environmental role

Progress is definitely being made in the fight for a greener world. CCTV’s Elaine Reyes spoke about the leadership role both U.S. and China are taking with Jennifer Turner. She’s the director of the China Environment Forum at the Woodrow Wilson Center.
