What’s behind the rocky ride in global equity markets? The Heat got some answers.

Here is one thing we can say for sure about investing in equity markets: it’s not for the faint of heart.

Earlier this week China’s stock market endured its biggest one day drop since 2007, prompting Chinese media to call August 24th “Black Monday”. In the United States after an unprecedented 1,000-point decline at the open on Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at an 18-month low and dropping nearly 600 points. It’s been a roller coaster ride ever since.

First, to help us understand the recent volatility we turned to our newsroom and CCTV’s Nathan King, who filed this report.
