No country for Santa Claus

World Today

While Santa Claus, aka. St. Nicholas, aka. Father Christmas, resides in the North Pole, he doesn’t actually have citizenship to any country, Erik Vilstrup Lorenzen, the Arctic Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark recently told CCTV America.

Following an interview with CCTV America’s Nathan King, Lorenzen was asked whether Claus is a citizen of Denmark or Russia.

Lorenzen offered a diplomatic reply — and even alluded to potential citizenship to Greenland — but in the end, he clearly stated that Claus is in fact without country.

Catch Lorenzen’s full interview Thursday on The Heat at 6 p.m. Eastern, 7 a.m. Beijing time.

The news comes as the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), an intergovernmental U.S. and Canada organization that provides aerospace warnings, begins tracking the activities of Santa Claus as of Dec. 1. It’s a task they’ve completed for 60 years.
