Economist Gary Hufbauer on ties between Cuba and EU

President Raul Castro wrapped up the second day of his state visit to France by meeting with the head of the country’s National Assembly. He also met the mayor of Paris. Castro is there to boost economic ties between Cuba and France.

CCTV America’s Rachelle Akuffo spoke to Gary Hufbauer, a Senior Fellow from the Peterson Institute for International Economics, about Cuba and the E.U.’s renewed ties.

Raul Castro’s trip comes a month after France agreed to a landmark deal to lighten Cuba’s foreign debt. Castro also thanked his host for his support.

French President Francois Hollande has been one of the most vocal supporters for Cuba’s reintegration into the global economy.

Raul Castro’s trip is the first by a Cuban head of state since his late brother, former President Fidel Castro, visited France in 1995.
