Colombia’s third largest city, Cali, is known as a tropical salsa hub. But if you can’t make it there, one app claims to help you learn in your own living room. CCTV America’s Michelle Begue reports.

The colorful costumes, the fast-paced footwork, the magical twirls, and the blaring trumpets that make up salsa dancing, will have any spectator wanting to dance in just moments.

In Colombia, the city of Cali has gained recognition as a World Salsa hub, hosting a number of festivals, schools and clubs. It is therefore no wonder that in this city, an application was created to bring salsa moves into any living room.

“This culture has generated a lot of interest not only from people living here, but from tourists who come here all the time to envelop themselves in salsa, dance salsa music, and watch salsa or attend the festivals that are mostly about salsa,” Mauro Diaz, Director of Cacumen Video said.

Cacumen Productions created an app called Baila Salsa ,which means Dance Salsa, The app can help anyone learn the basic salsa moves seen on any Cali stage.

With just a click, the user can learn a range of steps such as the Punta Talon, or the salsa versions of a “kick ball change” and for those who are more adventurous even how to flip their partner.

The free app was used as a promotional tool for the Colombian movie called Ciudad Delirio that tells a love story set in the Salsa World of Cali. The creators are now looking to update the app with its popularity as they claim to have seen downloads in every continent.

If flying to Cali to attend one of the famous dance schools isn’t an option, then apps like this one may help bring Cali’s salsa dancing to every living room.
