Thousands of migrants wait to see if asylum will be granted in Greece

World Today

On the Greek island of Lesbos, the fate of thousands of refugees hang in the balance at a detention center while authorities decide their future.

CCTV America’s Kate Parkinson reports from Lesbos.

Nearly half a million refugees arrived on these shores last year before continuing their journey to northern Europe.

But now, any new arrivals are sent to Moria: a processing center, turned detention camp.

More than 3,000 people are crammed into the grim camp, with its fences topped with razor wire. They will be held here until their asylum requests are processed.

Many international aid agencies have closed down their programs here to avoid being affiliated with a detention and deportation camp.
