Trump, Clinton come out on top of New York Primary

World Today

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both won their respective party primaries in New York on Tuesday.

CCTV America’s Nathan King filed this report from New York.

Winning by a wide margin in New York means Hillary Clinton is back on track to become the Democratic nominee for U.S. President.

Her margin of victory – if repeated in states like Pennsylvania next week – could pressure her opponent, Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders, to drop out.

Meanwhile, following a huge Republican turnout, billionaire New Yorker Donald Trump won his home state by a whopping margin.

While Trump is now the undisputed front-runner, he may not get the required 1,237 delegates to secure the Republican nomination prior to the convention. If he does not, a great number of party leaders have made it clear they will try to block his candidacy.

Trump, on the other hand, is trying to convince the party that if he comes close enough, he should be awarded the nomination and avoid a messy contest at the Republican convention in July.
