Long distance running gaining popularity in China

Global Business

Long distance running is fairly new to China as a mainstream sport, but its exploded in popularity in recent years after marathons opening to amateurs in the late 1990s.

CCTV’s Zhao Qian reports.

Marathon fever is now sweeping across China. At least 134 marathon-related events were registered with the Chinese Athletic Association in 2015, 83 more than in 2014.

The events attracted 1.5 million participants from nearly 90 countries and regions.

For many participants, running is about much more than just exercise. It’s about living a healthier life, and developing a passion that will stay with them for years to come.
