Family volunteering: A willingness to help

Volunteering as a family can be a great way to spend time together, create family bonds and teach children the value of service.

“I want them to know that regardless of how busy you are you can give,” said Susan Leclair, mom of two teen boys.

Often, no special skills or abilities are needed from the volunteers, just a willingness to help.

“My mom is a very busy person, so to see her put aside her work, her family and her own personal needs and to come down here, and give something back, it’s a powerful message really and it teaches me that I need to give back as well,” explained Leclair’s 15-year-old son, Chris.
