A view from Venezuela’s highest cable car

World Today

It is the highest, and the second longest cable car in the world. And it will open soon in Venezuela.

CCTV America’s Stephen Gibbs was given exclusive access.

It is the rebirth of the one of the great engineering projects of the Andes.

A cable car taking passengers 12.5 kilometers (7.7 miles) from the tropics to the clouds.

The original gondola was built in the 1950s, but closed in 2008.

Now, Venezuelan, Swiss-Austrian, and French experts, together with more than 3500 local workers have constructed a brand new system.

The route crosses the spectacular scenery of the Sierra Nevada national park. It has four stops along the way.

Finishing touches are still being made but very soon, there will be a more convenient way to see and appreciate this wilderness, than the current solution.
