“Americas Now” anchor Elaine Reyes meets with a former Venezuelan Ambassador to the United States to discuss the on-going political and economic turbulence in Venezuela.
Bernardo Alvarez served as Venezuela’s ambassador to the United States from 2003-2010. Alvarez addresses the recent “war of words” between Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary General Luis Almagro.
Currently, Mr. Alvarez is an Ambassador of Venezuela at the OAS.
The OAS Permanent Council is set to meet Tuesday June 21st in Washington at Venezuela’s request. At the special session former presidents Leonel Fernandez of the Dominican Republic and Martin Torrijos of Panama, along with former prime minister of Spain, Jose Luis Zapatero, will recount the efforts they have made to promote dialogue in Venezuela.
The meeting will be followed Thursday June 23rd by a special session requested by Almagro to further address the situation in Venezuela.
