House Republicans release report on Benghazi attack

The House Benghazi Committee report contains no major revelations about the 2012 attack that left four Americans dead in Benghazi, Libya, but it adds detail to a narrative that, according to Republicans, shows the Obama administration and then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton failed to respond adequately.

CCTV America’s Jim Spellman reports.

The report by the House Republicans reinforces past findings that Clinton and other officials initially claimed the attack was a spontaneous reaction to a protest over a video that mocked Islam. Clinton addressed the issue before a congressional committee back in 2013.

Republicans said the claims about the video were politically motivated and meant to defuse blame for poor security measures at the diplomatic compound.

The report finds that U.S. forces were slow to respond to the attack even after the White House ordered a military response.

Democrats, on the other hand, have said Republicans have almost spun the events of the Benghazi attacks into conspiracy theories meant to do political damage to the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton.

State Department officials acknowledge that security at the Benghazi facility was inadequate in 2012, adding that improvements have been made at U.S. facilities around the globe.
