Turkish PM Yildirim: those behind coup attempt “terrorists”

World Today

The Turkish Parliament held an extraordinary session on Saturday in Ankara after forces loyal to Turkey’s president quashed a coup attempt in a night of explosions, air battles and gunfire that left at least 161 people dead and many wounded.

“They are not soldiers, they are terrorists and cruel ones in the guise of soldiers,” said Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yildirim.

Authorities arrested thousands as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed that those responsible would pay a heavy price.
