Philadelphia amplifies security during Democratic convention

Conventions

As Philadelphia welcomes thousands of Democratic leaders and the party prepares to nominate its presidential candidate, the overwhelming concern is safety.

CCTV America’s Sean Callebs reports.

Philadelphia received more than $43 million from the federal government to offset the costs of keeping the convention safe.

Nearly one-third of that is earmarked to pay for outside officers as well as a bomb squad.

However, the protesters have already taken the streets.

The protesters are frustrated with democratic leadership, and the email scandal that has embarrassed the Democratic National Committee.

“When it comes to protesters, delegates, elected officials; we need to come together in a more unified way to bring this country together, and that’s what we look forward to doing,” Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said. “What we’re dealing with internationally is sad, frightening and unpredictable. So, you know, you have to go into every day as if it’s a normal day and try to take the necessary precautions to keep people safe, our citizens, protesters, our officers.”
