The Heat: Republican National Convention Recap

Few gave him a chance when Donald Trump launched his campaign for the Republican nomination one year ago. But a year is a lifetime in politics. With a populist message and a brash campaign style, the billionaire businessman left 16 largely seasoned politicians in his wake.

In the end it wasn’t even close. Next is the general election against former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She’s expected to receive the Democrat party’s nomination at its convention next week

Immediately following Trump’s speech many pundits called it “dark”, a “vision of America in decline”.  Yet, according to a CNN instant poll the majority of viewers who watched said it made them more likely to vote for him in November. Overall, 57% said they had a “very positive” reaction while 18% said they were “somewhat positive”.

For more from the convention floor, CCTV America’s Nathan King reports.
