CCTV America’s Franc Contreras explores how a Mexican eye care company is making a difference by mixing business with social service.

Sala Uno, a Mexican eye care company’s, business model aims to help society and still make a profit.

The inspiration for this company is the idea of providing low cost, high quality health care for lower income patients, who make up 70 percent of the market in Mexico.

By some estimates, eye problems are the second highest cause of disability in Mexico.

Like tens of thousands of other Sala Uno patients, Francisca Rodriguez came for cataract laser surgery. The cost: $610.

Prices are kept low by attracting large numbers of patients. Five years in, the founders of this rapidly expanding business said proper recruiting is a key to their success.

The company said another important factor is its constant effort to improve the experience each patient has in Sala Uno clinics and keeping up with the latest medical advances in eye care.
