Marcahuamachuco: “The Machu Picchu of the North”

This archaeological complex is located in the city of Huamachuco along the Pacific coast of Peru.

The Marcahuamachuco was built during Pre-Incan times and the site is known as the “Machu Picchu” of the north.

This mysterious place sits on an area that occupies nearly 4 kilometers in length and it’s over 3,000 meters above sea level.

Since 2001, the Global Heritage Fund supports the Peruvian government in order to preserve the site. It has become a touristic attraction and an important source of income for the locals.
