Lifting some suffering spirits with the sound of music

Americas Now

An orchestra in Argentina that plays at hospitals to soothe the suffering of patients, has created a campaign across the continent.

Cellist Jorge Bergero discovered that music was an effective instrument in providing relief to patients in pain. He began the organization “Music for the Soul” to help comfort them. Jorge gathered a group of musicians from the country’s most prestigious orchestra. They play classical music in hospital wards and waiting rooms throughout Argentina. The performances by “Music for the Soul” have been so well-received, the project has become a movement across Latin America. Nearly two thousand musicians have taken part in concerts for the growing project.
