Russian Foreign minister Sergei Lavrov told world leaders in his speech at the UN General Assembly that Moscow saved Syria from plunging into chaos.

He also used his speech to criticize Washington of destabilizing the Korean Peninsula by deploying missile defense systems in the South.

CCTV America’s Nathan King reports.

Sergei Lavrov justified Russian intervention in Syria by telling assembled world leaders at the United Nations that without Moscow’s support Syria could have been taken over by jihadists.

At a news conference after his speech, Lavrov accused the U.S. of not delivering on its ceasefire responsibilities to separate the legitimate rebels from Islamic terror groups.

Earlier, both Lavrov and his U.S. counterpart, Secretary of State John Kerry met once again to try and breach differences over restoring the Syrian ceasefire – those differences remain but both sides they will continue to talk.

The Russian foreign minister also criticized the U.S. for deploying the sophisticated Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, missile system in the Republic of Korea – He called for the DPRK to abandon nuclear weapons but said the U.S. move raises tensions.
