A writer from Chile whose death is still a page-turner

Americas Now

Pablo Neruda was a Chilean writer famous for his love poetry. He was also a diplomat who died just days after a government coup. Correspondent Joel Richards reports on the mysterious death of this literary legend.

Earlier this year, Neruda’s body was buried for a fourth time. The Chilean Nobel Literature Prize winner was as well known for his poetry as he was for his politics. Neruda was a member of the Communist Party and an adviser to former president Salvador Allende who died during a coup in 1973.

When Neruda himself passed away shortly thereafter, it was widely understood to be from cancer. But, many believe it was from something more sinister.

A recent investigation looked into the true cause of his death.
