Cubs fans parade in Chicago after first World Series win since 1908

It was the longest title drought in American baseball history. But today, for the first time since the early 1900s, fans from Chicago were finally able to celebrate their team’s victory as the team brought back the World Series Championship trophy for all to see.

After not years but generations of futility and heartbreak, the Chicago Cubs finally held up the World Series Championship trophy once again.

Chicago police said five million people lined the streets on a picture-perfect sunny Friday morning. Some were even skipping school and work.

“I have to, it’s a monumental day, it’s a monumental week, it’s a monumental year, go Cubs!” One fan said.

Those who joined the parade wrote down their names and ‘thank-you’s, which became just as much a part of history as their heroes.

Even the U.S. president paid tribute after the Cubs finally won. President Obama said during the Late Show, “the last time the Cubs had won, Thomas Edison was alive and they hadn’t invented sliced bread, yet. So, you know the expression ‘this is the greatest thing since sliced bread?’ This is actually, for Cubs fans, the greatest thing since sliced bread.”

On the other hand, some say victory may be hard to handle because the city has been supporting a team used to defeat. But after all, the day was emotional- some said it was surreal capping the most memorable week of their lives.
