US look to boost foreign direct investment from China

The success of that foreign direct investment program helped boost France’s overall economy.

It’s a clear example of why FDI is important for so many countries, including, the United States.

CCTV America’s Roee Ruttenberg reports from the state of Georgia.

Last year, Keer, a Chinese textiles firm that spins yarn and opened this plant in the U.S. state of South Carolina. With it came an investment of more than $200 million, and 500 new jobs.

In doing so, Keer joined nearly 20 other Chinese firms who’ve set up shop in this southern U.S. state over the last decade, bringing with them more than a billion dollars.

In September, Chinese tire maker Sentury announced a $530 million project that the biggest Chinese investment in Georgia in history.

As part of a competitive incentives package, Sentury was given 200 hectares of land in the city of LaGrange.

Sentury’s half-a-billion dollar investment brings with it a thousand new highly-skilled jobs in this town’s advanced manufacturing sector. That’s Chinese money creating U.S. jobs, at a time when many Americans are being told their jobs are being shipped abroad.”

Many people here hadn’t heard of the new project, but said they welcome the Chinese investment.
