China-US conduct joint military exercise

Chinese and U.S. are improving their military cooperation on rescue and disaster alleviation. A six-day joint exercise is taking place in a military base in Kunming, Southwest China’s Yunnan province.
More than 100 Chinese soldiers and 89 U.S. forces joined the drill.

The joint exercise is not the first of its kind, since both militaries had agreed to increase exchanges and cooperation. Chinese President Xi Jinping is reform the army. One of his goal is to build an army that is more connected to the outside world.

CCTV America’s Susan Roberts interviewed Jia Xiudong, a senior research fellow at the China Institute of International Studies, on the military drills.
