Urban murals enliven the walls of Miami’s Wynwood

Americas Now

For this week’s Urban Voice on “Americas Now” we take you to a Miami, Florida neighborhood called Wynwood. It began as a struggling, Latino immigrant community. But today it’s a mecca for street art.

Graffiti artists showcase their craft and compete for attention in Wynwood. For some, the neighborhood has given legitimacy to a form of expression also seen as vandalism.

Many Latino families have moved out of Wynwood because of rising real estate prices.

Local artists have packed up and left as well calling the neighborhood the latest victim of gentrification.
