Getting a more ‘connected’ driving experience at Detroit Auto Show

Global Business

This year’s Detroit Auto Show is showcasing some of the latest driving technology, as well as autonomous vehicles and electric motors, there are a whole range of companies developing devices to make driving safer and more enjoyable.

CGTN’s Nick Harper is in Detroit, and has been checking out what’s on display.

There’s plenty to see and plenty to do, and at the Detroit auto show that means trying out the technology. Like the Dash, a fully electric, and one day fully autonomous vehicle.

The company’s targeting colleges to help get students to classes. One day it’ll be autonomous, allowing them to do some work, or take a nap, on the way to class.

Also on display at the show is technology that’s already built into the cars. Like detection system from Volvo. Should a moose happen to walk into the middle of the road while you’re driving, the car will apply the brakes.

And there’s technology that monitors you while you drive. It is clever bit of kit called Healthy Road, it’ll soon be in BMW cars. And the auto show is also looking further down the road. It is a vision of the future, what it could look like out of your windshield in a few years’ time. The company Wind River makes software that they hope will go in fully autonomous cars.

Another big push at this year’s show is for e-mobility, all electric vehicles that allow you to get around town. That is the URB-E, an all-electric, foldable scooter which means you can get from get from A to B without having to worry about a parking spot.
