President Donald Trump’s administration slapped new sanctions on Iran 48 hours after putting Tehran “on notice” for test firing a ballistic missile.

CGTN’s Jim Spellman reports.

The new U.S. sanctions imposed against Iran target 13 individuals and 12 entities. The White House said they were in response to an Iranian ballistic missile test last Sunday.

The unilateral sanctions come after President Trump put Tehran quote “on notice”.

Tehran says the missile test does not violate the multinational agreement in which Iran agreed to stop pursuing nuclear weapons in exchange for eased sanctions.

“In retaliation for the U.S. sanctions, Iran will impose legal restrictions on some American individuals and entities that were involved in helping and founding regional terrorist groups,” Javad Zarif, Iran’s foreign minister said on Twitter.

Included in the new sanctions are two Chinese firms and three Chinese individuals. The U.S. said they provided financial or material support for Iran’s missile program. Their assets in U.S. banks will be frozen, and U.S. companies and individuals are barred from doing business with them.
