The Odebrecht corruption scandal has reached Colombia’s president Juan Manuel Santos, a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Former Colombian Senator Otto Bula has alleged that president Santos’ 2014 re-election campaign may have received funds from the company. CGTN’s Michelle Begue reports.

The allegation states that Santos’ campaign received as much as $1 million from Brazilian engineering firm Odebrecht.

The Attorney General’s office said there is no hard evidence to back up the allegation as they only have the testimony from the accused ex-senator.

Santos’ transparency secretary said the allegations are untrue, however the president called for a thorough investigation.

The probe looks into money received by a political party and candidates during a campaign and the Electoral Commission will continue its investigation.
