Valentine's Day rakes in huge profits for Mexico's flower industry

In Mexico, Valentine’s Day is called the “Day of Love and Friendship.” Many Mexicans will express those feelings by giving fresh flowers to loved ones.

CGTN’s Franc Contreras reports on the blooming business.

Fresh flowers of every sort are on sale year round, bringing producers and vendors across Mexico hundreds of millions of dollars in profits. And Valentine’s Day one of the biggest days for fresh flower sales.

Mexico’s Agriculture Ministry calculates that every single year this country produces one billion roses for sale inside Mexico and for export.

Tons of fresh roses direct from Mexico’s greenhouses and public markets are being specially delivered now locally and abroad.
