Protesters hold nationwide strike against Trump’s immigration policies

In cities across the U.S., “A Day Without Immigrants,” a combination of boycott and strike highlights immigrants contributions to U.S. businesses and culture.

The movement was sparked by U.S. President Trump’s immigration policies. In the nation’s capital, a planned march around the White House to send a message to Americans, “Immigrants do the jobs many of you simply won’t do, so here’s what it’s like without us for just one day!”

Celebrity chef Jose Andres who rejected an offer to open a new restaurant at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. said the U.S.-Mexico wall dispute and raids on illegal immigrants means Latinos in particular feel under attack.

Whether protesting on the streets or just staying indoors, many U.S. immigrants, both legal and illegal, stayed away from work on Thursday.
