China believes that technological innovation fuels economic development.
The country has seen a boom in tech start-ups, attracting attention overseas.

CGTN’s He Weiwei offers an example of an innovative product: the world’s thinnest, flexible display.

Doctor Liu Zihong brimmed with pride as he showed off his company’s “FlexPhone”.
With its record-breaking thinness of 0.1 millimeters, the material can be rolled up freely and made into various products.

Founded in 2012, Royole Corporation now owns more than 700 intellectual property rights both at home and abroad. China views innovations such as these as the driving force for economic development. The country is determined to increase the tech sector’s contribution to economic growth to 60 percent by 2020.

CPPCC national committee member Mao Yunshi believes that Guangdong province is leading that charge. “Guangdong still faces the problem of uneven development, but it has unrolled various policies to boost innovation,” Mao said.

Guangdong now has about twenty thousand tech companies. That makes it the number one province of its kind nationwide. Guangdong will also work on increasing investment in tech research and study.
