Huawei and Lenova launch new gadgets for mobile phones as thousands flock to Spain for World Mobile Congress.

CGTN’s Dan Williams reports.

Chinese mobile companies are standing out at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona.  More than 100,000 delegates descended on the Catalan city for the annual exhibition, which began on Monday.

For one week each year, Barcelona becomes the center of the 400 billion dollar mobile phone industry.  Everyone there is looking at new product launches.

Huawei’s latest models are drawing big crowds. More than a thousand delegates eagerly waited for the launch of the company’s new P10 handsets and new watch.

Huawei expects the P10 handsets and watch to broaden their reach into the mobile phone market.

“Mobile world congress is without doubt the largest most significant industry event for telecoms. This is our flagship product. Our P9, the predecessor was the first device we ever made that sold more than ten million units and we hope this improved model will sell just as well if not better.” Huawei’s Joe Kelly said.

Across town, Lenovo kicked off their congress with the launch of their new G5 and G5 Plus phones.

The company also revealed extra add-on devices for its Moto Z range that include a projector, a speaker and a zoom camera.

“We are number two in a number of markets and outside of China we are actually number four globally. So for us, we continue to grow, we continue to gain market share and it is a market with a lot of competition but it is a market that we are doing very well in,” Lenovo’s Jim Thiede said.

This week alone, more than two-thousand companies will show off their latest mobile gadgets to throngs of delegates looking for how innovation will shape the mobile industry for the next year and beyond.
