A global cast of film industry players gather in Hong Kong this week. Focus this year: the future of the film industry in China.

CGTN’s Mao Dan spoke to insiders at the event.

It is the 21st annual Hong Kong FILMART, called the leading entertainment market in Asia.

This year, more than 800 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions are taking part in the event, including a growing number of mainland companies.

Despite the remarkable growth in recent years, China’s 2016 box office grew merely 3.7 percent, the lowest in a decade.

Investors are on the lookout for promising scripts at the event.

“With the booming of Asian film market, it’s easier to sell scripts now, because the demand for content is growing and diversifying. Audiences always want novelty. Film creators should keep innovating,” screenwriter and film producer Sobel Chen said.

As the Chinese film frenzy continues, writers will continue to be in demand. Attenders hope professional talents and quality products will keep China’s movie dreams alive.
