XTech conference displays latest in VR tech

Global Business

New technology such as Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality have been very popular over the last few years. And very often it’s all about gaming, which is where the money is right now.

But this week’s XTech conference in San Francisco sought to literally take the technology deeper, and straight into the brain.

CGTN’s Mark Niu Reports.

At the Xtech conference, the mind is the focus like in this technology called the human charger – which shines a bright light through your ears and to your brain.

A key tool that’s experimenting with the mind is virtual reality. Jon Favreau, actor and director of movies such as Iron Man and the Jungle Book, is now creating animated virtual reality stories.

AppliedVR created a program to showcase how VR can affect emotions. But its other programs are used by hospital patients for the opposite effect — to keep their minds occupied during painful procedures and to reduce anxiety.

Rikard Steiber talks future of Virtual Reality

One of the industry leaders in virtual reality is HTC, which currently has a top selling VR headset called Vive, as well as a VR app store called Viveport.

CGTN’s Mark Niu caught up with Viveport’s president Rikard Steiber at the XTech conference. He began by asking Steiber if he thought Virtual Reality had failed to live up to the hype.
