Recession has hit Brazil’s biggest fashion event. The organizers of Sao Paulo Fashion week had to deal with a sharp reduction of their budget and the notable absence of some big players. The changes didn’t go unnoticed by the fashion crowd.

Some of Brazil’s biggest names in fashion are not taking part in Sao Paulo Fashion Week. That left a big opening for newcomers to show their style, with 15 designers showcasing their models here for the very first time.

Some major labels declined to come because organizers requested that this season’s clothes, displayed here, had to also be readily available to consumers. It’s the “see now, buy now” in fashion lingo.

Fashion journalist says it’s a strategy to make the styles more accessible to the public.

Newcomers like Maison Alexandrine’s Dinho Batista had no issue with ‘see now, buy now’ rule.
