China demands release of Huawei executive detained in Canada

China is demanding that Canada release a telecom executive – or face serious consequences.

Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou was arrested as she transited the airport in Vancouver, Canada December 1.

She’s being held on a warrant from the U.S., which accuses her of covering up company links to a firm that violated sanctions on Iran. 

In Beijing, the Chinese foreign ministry summoned Canada’s Ambassador to file a formal protest. CGTN’s Natalie Carney has more.
