Some cities around the world are dealing with an “increase” in tourism revenue, but continue to struggle with rampant poverty. One of those cities is Cartagena, Colombia. It’s one of the country’s biggest tourist attractions but as CCTV’s Michelle Begue reports, some locals are being excluded from the economic growth spurt.

Part of the reason behind Cartagena’s increasing tourism is a phenomenon known as slum tourism.  Ko Koens, lecturer at Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands describes what this means and how it applies to Cartagena.
