International Cooperation Raises National Security Concerns

The level of cooperation between the 26 countries that have participated in the search has been unprecedented. But as Andy Saputra reports these nations also recognize that it could very well, conflict with their own national security interests.

Over 20 nations pulled their resources together, often classified technologies, in search of the missing MH370. But with very little data the biggest search operation in recent history is facing a daunting task. With that information, potential hostile forces can learn and evade Malaysia’s first line of defense. And in a region where territorial disputes are common that is a dangerous proposition.

The Malaysian defense minister has called for an upgrade of the defense system to help mitigate this risk. With so much at stake, the sharing of these information shows how united these countries are in finding the missing jetliner even at the risk of exposure.

The fact that so many countries opened up their borders and readily shared sensitive information shows the level of commitment of the International community. That continued commitment will be crucial if they want to have any chance of finding flight MH370.
