In Afghanistan,  the historic presidential election begins Saturday. At the same time, the threat of Taliban violence could deter voting.  On Friday, one journalist was killed and another injured in an attack by an Afghan police commander.

Anja Neidringhaus 48, a Pulitzer Prize-winning German photographer, died in a shooting Friday in Afghanistan’s eastern Khost province. The Associated Press photographer was shot to death  in an attack that also wounded AP’s long-time reporter in the region. The attack injured Kathy Gannon, a Canadian reporter based in Islamabad, who is reported in stable condition and getting medical treatment, according to the AP. Gannon, 60, has reported on Pakistan and Afghanistan since the 1980s. CCTV’s Malini Wilkes reports.
