The World’s Richest Man Gives Back

CCTV-America takes an in-depth look to the Bill Gates Foundation and the continuous efforts to eradicate poverty.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was established in 1994 and Gates took the helm full-time in 2000. “A lot of what I learned at Microsoft is very applicable to this new area,” Gates says in an exclusive interview with CCTV America’s Mike Walter. Gates grew up in a family that instilled in him the importance of justice, knowledge of the world and philanthropy.

This worldview remained paramount to him when he started his own family. “Once you decide that giving your children huge amounts of money is not great for them or society, then you think what are the philanthropic causes, what are the great injustices in the world?” Gates said. “And can giving at a philanthropic level, that’s still very small compared to government level, can it be so catalytic?”
