In the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, pro-Russian activists have seized a regional administration building. They have reportedly declared the creation of a sovereign “people’s republic,” independent of Ukrainian rule.
The move has been strongly opposed by the interim Ukrainian government. Tensions have also escalated in two other Ukrainian cities: Kharkiv and Luhansk. CCTV’s Michal Bardavid reports.

Tensions are escalating in Ukraine as protests were held in three eastern cities, Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk. In Donetsk Pro-Russian protesters called for an independent republic and Russia's protection, a move that was strongly opposed by the Interim Ukrainian government. CCTV's Michal Bardavid reports.
