Chinese Embroidery Art Empowers Women in Algeria

To Algeria where one woman is on a mission to empower her fellow women. Souhila Naddjar, recently returned to Algeria from China after a three month training on the art and technique of Chinese embroidery. She has now taken it upon herself to transfer this knowledge to her female counterparts. And so far the interest in this ancient Chinese art has been astounding. CCTV’s Susan Mwongeli reports.

Souhila Naddjar, recently returned to Algeria from China after a three month training on the art and technique of Chinese embroidery. She has now taken it upon herself to transfer this knowledge to her female counterparts. And so far the interest in this ancient Chinese art has been astounding. CCTV’s Susan Mwongeli reports.

In a small gallery in western Algeria women of all ages are leaning the art and technique of Chinese embroidery. Using a sewing machine the women receive training on how to make embroidery on fabric using natural colors. Souhila Naddjar, is the pioneer, she recently returned home after 3 months of training in China.

Upon arrival she set up this training facility. The response has been phenomenal and so far the number of women in the center has more than doubled.

Women at the facility are pretty impressed by the exquisite embroidery.

Naddjar says the techniques is quite easy to learn and now hopes that the training can extend to other parts of Algeria.
