China’s Foreign Minister to Visit Cuba

World Today

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi begins a week-long visit to Latin America this weekend. His first stop will be in Cuba which recently passed a new law aimed at attracting foreign investment.

The Minister will also visit other Latin American countries, among them Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil. The Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei announced that the visit responds to invitations by his peers from Cuba, Venezuela, Argentina, and Brazil. The trip of the Chinese minister for four Latin American countries occurs at a time when relations between the Asian giant and that region of the world expand. These links became more important since January when it was determined to establish the China-Latin America-Caribbean Forum. CCTV’s Michael Voss has this report from Havana.
