One of his questioners was former US security contractor Edward Snowden, who has temporary permission to stay in Russia following his revelations about surveillance by the US National Security Agency. Snowden is hitting back at critics who say that his appearance was a PR stunt that boosts Putin.

On Thursday Edward Snowden video linked into President Putin’s public event. Snowden was immediately criticized by many who said he was playing along with a staged propaganda event. Friday Snowden responded in an article in the Guardian newspaper, saying that he hoped his exchange with Putin would mirror this exchange last year between a US senator and the US Director of National Intelligence.
