A change in the scene of this busy Damascus street- these once discarded mugs, cups, glasses and tiles have found their way to a new home, to see the light of day again.

Seven hundred and twenty meters (high, long, wide ), this mound of recycled materials has formed what has been recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the biggest mural in the world made of recycled materials.

The mural came to life through the efforts of art teachers working in Syria’s public schools system. They hope their creation will change the mood in the war torn capital to something brighter.

The mural took over six months to build and stretches over the wall at the Nahla Zidan school. The school is named after a teacher who was killed in a militant attack in the upscale Mezze highway area in Damascus.
