Gun Attack Shatters Ukraine’s Easter Truce

World Today

A fragile Geneva agreement to resolve the Ukraine crisis is hanging by a thread after as many as five people were killed in a gun battle near the volatile eastern town of Slavyansk early on Sunday. Anti-government militiamen say a convoy of four vehicles approached their checkpoint at about two in the morning and opened fire.

They say three of their men were killed along with two of the attackers, who, they claim, were members of the Right Sector, a group loosely aligned with the government in Kiev. The group denies playing a role instead pointing the finger at Russian special forces. The attack came just hours after Ukrainian authorities declared a truce to coincide with the Easter holiday. CCTV’s Kate Parkinson reports from Slavyansk with more.
