Tight Security For Boston Marathon

World Today

On Monday, the world’s oldest annual city marathon – and one of the most prestigious, will be the safest place on the planet. That’s the promise from the Boston Marathon’s race director Dave McGillivray.

Also, this year’s marathon will be bigger and bolder, with the largest number of runners and spectators expected to converge along the 42-kilometer route (26 miles, 385 yards). It is anticipated that the participants will show up in force, to reclaim the race after last year’s deadly bomb attack to show support and solidarity for the families of the three people killed, along with the hundreds injured. Due to last year’s attack and the huge number of people expected this year, security will be much more intense. First time ever, oganizers and public safety officials working together with the 8 towns and cities on the marathon route for a comprehensive strategy. CCTV reporter Liling Tan reports from Boston with details on the security arrangements for the event.
