Americas Now

Senator Ivan Duque is considered to be one of the most influential economic voices and financial advisors for Colombia today. Before being elected Senator, he served as a consultant to former president Alvaro Uribe Velez, and was also once the Culture, Creativity and Solidarity Division Chief for the Inter-American Development Bank.  Senator Duque joins us in the studio this week to discuss his political party, the Movement Democratic Center.

Senator Duque speaks on election tampering that may have prevented more members of his party from being elected. He also talks about the Colombian government’s negotiations with FARC and addresses accusations about human rights violations on behalf of his own party during their rule, which is also credited with an economic turnaround for the country.
