Russia Thanks Cuba For Support

The conflict in Ukraine came up during the Russian Foreign Minister’s visit to Cuba Tuesday.Sergei Lavrov is in Havana meeting with his Cuban counterpart.Cuba has backed Russia in the Ukraine crisis.

Cuban Minister Rodriguez Parrilla reiterated his country’s stance on the Ukraine crisis, telling Lavrov that Havana “considers the attempt to extend NATO to the Russian Federation’s border as a serious threat to international peace and security.” Lavrov criticized the sanctions that have been imposed by the European Union and United States on Moscow in response to events in Ukraine.

Earlier on Tuesday, the EU released 15 new names of people targeted for sanctions over their roles in the crisis.According to the Cuban Communist Party newspaper Granma, Lavrov is in Havana to strengthen co-operation agreements between Russia and Cuba.Cuba is his first stop on a trip that will also take him to Nicaragua, Chile and Peru.
